This one may be unpopular but, I’d like to see less rewards for National Tournament results and more for conference tournament results as well as for people managing bad/mediocre teams.
The success you have in the national tournament is already the fun part of HD, I don’t feel it needs to be further emphasized with reward points that can lead to free seasons. It benefits coaches who stay at the same schools for a long time. Benefits power D1 schools, etc.
Currently I believe the reward system breaks down like this
Manage a team: ~1.50 in credits
Lose opening round game: $3 in credits
Lose second round game: $5 in credits
Lose Sweet 16 game: $10 in credits
Lose Elite 8 game: $15 in credits
Lose Final Four game: $20 in credits
Lose Championship game: 4,000 reward points (For maths sake i’m gonna say this is about $25 value if you saved for a 5 pack)
National Champion: 6,000 reward points (Lets say $30)
This means in a given season WIS gives out roughly $411 dollars in rewards for the national tournament (per level).
A rough proposal for what I’d like to see would be
Lose on the first weekend of the tournament: $2 (Make the NT)
Lose on the second weekend: $4 (Make Sweet 16)
Make it to the final weekend: $7 (Final 4)
Win it all: $10
Win Conference Tournament: $2
Win Regular season conference championship: $1
This would result in roughly $275-300 dollars per season going to success. The rest I’d like to see targeted towards coaches who take over low prestige schools at every level. For example:
If a coach takes over a C+ or worse prestige schools
Season 1: $7
Season 2: $5
Season 3: $4
Season 4: $3
Beyond that, reverting back to the current low value for credits for missing the tournament.
The effects of this ideally would encourage more coach movement, give more value to conference schedule and season, reward coaches for coaching a lower level schools more while still rewarding coaches for national tournament success.
The inspiration of this idea was how frustrating it can be to join new worlds or take over new teams knowing that its going to be a 30-40 dollar investment before I can even really enjoy the game (make the national tournament, challenge for conference success) unless I take over an already developed team that was recently left by another coach.
Additionally, the recognition that it costs more money to coach at a mid major or low end D1 because you know you’ll never go deep in the tournament and hoping to slightly balance that as well and spread the rewards out among all users.
