Feedback on Hoops Dynasty

A few friends and I have been playing this game for a little bit now and after seeing the recent WIS update (https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?topicID=545962&page=1#l_12790278) here is some feedback we wanted to provide. 1.) Press is too effective and not realistic (pretty much a cheat code) and stamina drains way too quickly 2.) Second half comebacks are far too common than they should be 3.) For recruiting- it would be great if recruiting was 2 times a day instead of 4, make the lower tier D1 recruits better while also making it harder for D2 and D3 to recruit D1 players 4.) Fix the red stamina bug (vets should know what this is referring to) 5.) Promises only lasting 1 season when in reality that's not how things work

SLB Pitching Fatigue

The fatigue system for pitchers needs a major overhaul, and I would be happy to discuss this in depth. But the first thing that needs to be fixed is in-game fatigue. Currently it is based largely on the pitcher’s RL IP/G. There are at least 3 major problems with this method: (1) Far too few complete games. For most of baseball history, a pitcher who averaged 7 innings per start would have completed quite a few of those starts. In SLB, his fatigue will kick in quickly around the 6th or 7th inning, and his performance will deteriorate noticeably after that. (2) Pitchers who both started and relieved are severely and unduly penalized, because their total IP/G is low even though they frequently pitched long into the game when they started. 1992 Curt Schilling is an excellent example of this. (3) Modern relievers are often toast after 10 or 15 pitches; stretching them just slightly longer results in immediate and massive drop in performance. Putting all of this together, far too many games result in teams using their entire bullpens, and far too many leads, including big leads, are blown in the late innings. A good start would be to factor in a starting pitcher’s percentage of CG/GS. And for relievers, fatigue should either not kick in until they have reached double their actual IP/G and/or it should have much slower impact on performance.

NBA SIM NEEDS TO ALLOW SMALLER LEAGUES

Currently your NBA SIM only allows leagues with 24 teams. It’s incredibly hard to start a league and get 24 owners. You need to allow smaller leagues. We need 8, 12 and 16 team leagues to be available. You will have tons more leagues if you make these smaller size leagues available, like you do with the baseball game. 8 team leagues will be 2 divisions of 4 teams each. Teams will play the 3 teams in their division 14 times each (42 games) and they will play the 4 teams in the other division 10 times each (40 games) for an 82 game schedule. The 2 division winners and the 2 next best records make the playoffs, 12 team leagues will play the 3 teams in their division 14 times (42 games), and will play the other 8 teams 5 times each (40 games) for an 82 game schedule. The 3 division winners and the next 3 best records make the playoffs with the top 2 seeds getting a bye for the first round. 16 team leagues will be 4 divisions of 4 teams each, 2 in each conference, Teams will play the 3 teams in their own division 14 times (42 games). They will play the 4 teams in the other division in their conference 6 times each (24 games). They will play the 8 teams in the opposite conference 2 times each (16 games) which is an 82 game schedule. Eight teams make the playoffs. The 2 division winners and the next 2 best records in each conference,

OL4 is still screwed up

Looking at Valpo in Warner, I played the first half of the national semi-finals against Texas State this morning. On the very first play of my first possession, my depth chart called for Lee, Thompson and Phillips G/C, and Clements and Lewis at T. The game played Clements and Lewis at T, and Lee, Zimmerman and Phillips at G/C. Wait a minute! Zimmerman? Chris Zimmerman is a RB, playing at the OL4 slot!?!? BTW, he was also RB2 on those plays – he was playing two positions at once. This continued for the first four plays. Then on the fifth play the game went to Gibbs, a DB at OL4 spot. Then on the sixth play it went to Gonzalez, a LB at the OL4 spot. When you click the green X0 on a play and the OL4 spot is blank on the lineup, we’ve been told not to worry, there’s an OL there and he just doesn’t show up. This is not true. That OL4 spot is definitely screwed up, seriously screwed up. This has been a known problem for a long time. PLEASE FIX IT. I’ll be happy to answer any of your questions about my settings as you trouble-shoot.

Change rating growth process

Currently, every rating/attribute improvement is a gradual one, and as a result over time it’s easy to predict. This renders Advanced Scouting fairly useless for experienced owners. This results in experienced owners having a significant budget advantage over newer owners in addition to knowing the game better. This does make sense for some (many?) attributes, but others should see a sharp increase once the player ‘figures it out’. A good example of this might be Pitches for hurlers - the guy is working on his curve ball for a while with little to no improvement and then he finally turns the corner and masters it. Perhaps an offseason workout regimen pays big dividends and instead of a 2 or 3 point gain for Strength it’s 6 or more. Of course, not every player and every rating would have this sudden improvement, lending unpredictability to player growth once again.

Deadball pitchers

Deadball pitchers dominate multi-era leagues and wreck offensive strategies that rely on homerun hitters. This has been the case for AGES in the sim and it really skews leagues when a guy like Addie Joss can pitch 300+ innings and only give up 4 HR. even when facing legendary sluggers from future years. The core balancing problem here, as I see it, is that those homers don’t actually turn into something else. If you believe that Ken Griffey Jr won’t hit barely any home runs against Joss because he’s hitting a dead ball and that ball won’t go out of the park, he should instead be hitting more doubles, triples, and fly outs, things that would happen if you hit a dead ball very hard. But the sim doesn’t translate the missing homers into anything and power hitters just languish against dead ball pitchers. It makes playing across eras feel really imbalanced and I know many people who hate playing with deadball pitchers. This is a long-standing issue with the sim and there could be several different ways of solving it, but something really should be done about the dominance of the dead ball era.

Update Spelling of School Names

I have a small but meaningful request. I’d be scocked if this hasn't been asked before, but allow me to persist with the effort. I've noticed for a long time that schools like LSU and USC are spelled out "Louisiana State" and "Southern Cal," while a few others have more inexplicable examples. Well, I'm coaching at Utah now and it really sucks to put in so much effort and see the representation of all of it in the tournament be "University of" in the bracket view... in the conference tournament it's smaller font so the "...Utah" fits at the end, but that's beside the point. Why in the world doesn't it just say "Utah" ? Why do some schools have "Indiana University" while others are simply "Kansas" ? Don't get me started on "UCONN" and "UNLV".... It's really upsetting when the name of the school you're coaching isn't visible in the place where championships are won... this can't be a difficult thing to fix, and it really is something that means a lot. Please take the time to honor the programs and their coaches with accuracy, in the same way the “University of Connecticut” currently is.
